Rookie Vikki Laing shoots impressive second round at German Open
Musselburgh rookie Vikki Laing and the more experienced Clare Queen shared the Scottish honours at the halfway stage of a HypoVereinsbank German Open.
Laing, a 28-year-old rookie who has won on the US Futures Tour, birdied the 18th for a second round of one under par 71 and she finished on level par and alongside Queen, who opened with a 69 but slipped back with a 75.
They were both tied for 28th place on 144 on a day when Swede Johanna Westerberg shot a 67 for 12 under par 132 and stretched her lead to three shots over England’s Melissa Reid, who also shot 67.
Archerfield’s Lynn Kenny was in the top seven after her opening 68 but struggled to a 77 and was on one over par and on the same mark as fellow-Scot, Krystle Caithness, who completed three holes of her storm-interrupted first round 72 in the early morning before heading straight back out and adding a 73.
Ellon’s Michele Thomson missed her first cut of her rookie year after posting rounds of 77 and 79.
