Torrance takes Seniors Order of Merit

Sam Torrance held his nerve at the Castellon Senior Tour Championship to secure his third Seniors Order of Merit.

The 55-year-old finished third in Spain to take his earnings to £152,543 toedge out holder Ian Woosnam by just £3,020.

Former European Ryder Cup captain Torrance finished with a 69 and four shots behind winner Angel Franco but was thrilled to clinch the crown.

“This means the world to me – to be the best Senior player in Europe this year is a fantastic feeling,” said Torrance.

“It’s been a great battle between me and Woosie – I said last year I wanted the title back and I’ve done it.

“This one feels sweeter than my other two – the older you get the harder it is so it’s a great achievement.”
