Top Scots into Open

Glasgow's Janice Moodie has battled back from an ankle injury to make it through the US Women's Open qualifying and she will join Catriona Matthew as the two Scots in the 156-strong field for the third major of the women's season at Interlachen in Minnesota from June 26-29.

Moodie missed this month's second major of the year - the McDonald's LPGA Championship - due to the ankle sprain, but she managed to put together a two under par 142 total at Rockville in Maryland to claim one of 35 qualifying spots.

American Kelli Kuehne led the list on eight under par 136, while 18-year-old Michelle Wie was in second place on seven under after rounds of 70 and 67.

It will be the sixth US Women's in a row for Wie, who tied for third at Newport in 2006 but had to withdraw due to an injured wrist before completing 36 holes last year.

Moodie, who hurt her ankle tripping down stairs at her home in Florida last month, will return to the LPGA Tour for this week's Wegmans LPGA in Rochester, New York.
