Thomson wins Scottish Amateur Championship

Michele Thomson, who will compete for GB and Ireland in the Curtis Cup at St Andrews at the end of the month, will travel to the Old Course as the new Scottish Women's Amateur Champion.

In the 18-hole final at Lossiemouth, the 20-year-old won the title for a first time with a 2 and 1 win over surprise finalist, 30-year-old Jocelyn Carthew (Ladybank).

Michele, is a deserved winner of the coveted title, and it is the perfect fillip before she joins Sally Watson, Carly Booth and Krsytle Caithness as the four Scots in the GB and Ireland Curtis Cup team to face America from May 30-June 2.

Michele edged through the semi final at the 20th hole against Laura Murray (Alford).

In the other semi-final, Jocelyn Carthew (Ladybank) scored a shock 3 and 1 win over Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), the teenager who was top amateur in this month's Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies' Scottish Open at the Carrick.

It was a first final for both players. Last year, Michele reached the semi-finals.

Semi-finals:
J Carthew (Ladybank) bt K Walker (Buchanan Castle) 3 and 1
M Thomson (Ellon McDonald) bt L Murray (Alford) at 20th
