Catriona Matthew takes third place at Madrid Ladies' Challenge
Scotland’s Catriona Matthew had four birdies in a final round of three under par 70 to finish third on six under par in the Madrid Ladies’ Challenge at Casino Club de Golf Retamares.
France’s Gwladys Nocera, who won the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies’ Scottish Open at the Carrick, Loch Lomond, in May, claimed her fourth title of the year on the European Tour with a terrific last day 67 and an 11 under par total.
Matthew, who has two European titles among her five victories worldwide, started the day two shots off the lead, and made an early move with birdies at the third and seventh before dropping her only shot of the day at the eighth. Her final birdie came at the long 18th.
Nocera, the two-time Solheim Cup player, birdied the last two holes and had nine in all for a comfortable three shot win over Spain’s Paula Marti, who closed with a 70 to sneak one ahead of Matthew.
