

Fourteen-year-old Lesley Atkins secures place in Scottish Amateur quarter-finals
Fourteen-year-old Lesley Atkins scored two fine wins to reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Southerness. The Borders County Champion beat Susan Wood (Drumpellier) 2 and 1 in the first round and followed up with a final green triumph over Katy McNicoll (Carnoustie).
Lesley, who also plays table tennis at international level, will now meet the 1998 Champion Elaine Moffat (St Regulus) for a place in the semi-finals.
Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle), the top qualifier, was suffering from a sore shoulder and slipped to a 3 and 2 defeat in the second round against Carol Wilson (Murcar).
Carol will now face Jane Turner (Craigielaw) in the quarters, while the other two matches are Laura Murray (Alford) versus Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) against Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle).
