Second spot for Dear

Gavin Dear of Murrayshall Golf Club finished second at the Scottish open stroke-play golf championship on Sunday as England's Tommy Fleetwood carded a new tournament record to take the title.

Fleetwood produced rounds of 66, 69, 67 and 66 as he finished on 16 under par, to better Richie Ramsay's course record of 269 set at Lundin Links in 2004 by one shot.

Despite the Englishman's form Dear maintained the Scottish challenge, with his third round score of 66 closing the gap to just three strokes ahead of the final round.

Dear, who ended the tournament eight shots adrift of Fleetwood, said: "I didn't know how far Tommy was ahead, for the first nine holes I thought he was maybe level par but then when we went through the 10th I found out he was five under.

"If I had known that I may have changed tactics and gone with driver at the seventh and eighth but I took my foot off in the last six holes as I knew I had second place. I am happy with the week, especially as I missed the cut in this tournament last year."
