First day blues for Scottish team in Championships
Scotland's high hopes of success suffered a body blow on the first day at the European Girls' Championships at Murcar.
Led by Carly Booth, who was the top performer with a 78, the Scots finished a heartbreaking 17th out of the 19 countries.
Booth, Rebecca Wilson (79), Kelsey MacDonald (80) and Sammy Vass (87) were a collective 36 over par for the 18 holes and the 21-over-par 237 total leaves the home team well out of contention for one of the top eight match-play places.
Switzerland, Sweden and Germany shared the top spot on four-over-par 220, one ahead of surprise package, the Czech Republic. France, England and Ireland were tied on 227.
