Carly Booth and Kylie Walker turn pro after successful Tour School outing
Kylie Walker and teenager Carly Booth have both turned professional after they won their cards for the 2010 Ladies’ European Tour at the final qualifying school at La Manga in Spain.
Walker had a superb third round of 68 and closed with a 73 over the South course to finish on six under par and in a share of eighth place.
Seventeen-year-old Booth became the youngest ever Scot to qualify for the Tour thanks to finishing on three under par and in 14th place after closing rounds of 72 and 74.
One rule regarding Booth is that she will need to be accompanied on Tour by a guardian until she celebrates her 18th birthday next June, the same month that she will complete her golf scholarship at Glenalmond School.
“I’m really pleased,” was the youngster’s reaction. “I will now turn professional and I’ll travel with my mum up until I'm 18."
Walker, who played for GB and Ireland in this year’s Vagliano Trophy, admitted that the interruptions and the tough qualifying process took its toll.
“I played really well in the morning third round and made a lot of birdies,” she said. “But I think I became a little tired and frustrated in the afternoon. Still, I managed to shoot level par and now I’m looking forward to working out my schedule for 2010.”
With only the top 30 players gaining full cards, Scot Clare Queen shot a disappointing final round of 80 to finish joint last of the 52 qualifiers. It means she will only have limited playing rights next year. Ayrshire’s Pamela Feggans, a rookie this year, missed the 54-hole cut by four shots on 11 over par after a third round 78.
Germany’s Caroline Masson, another to enter as an amateur, shot a last round of 66 to lead the qualifiers on 14 under par. She was two ahead of Australian Kristie Smith and three better than Colombia’s Maria Jose Uribe. Walker was the leading British player.
