Scots disappoint in Japan

Janice Moodie had a final round 72 and tied for 44th place at the Mizuno Classic in Japan. Fellow-Scot Catriona Matthew also closed with a level par round and was 59th.

But it was a great tournament for the fast rising star of women’s golf, South Korea’s Ji-Yai Shin.

The teenager was a shock winner of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Sunningdale in August – this time she romped to a six shot victory after a final round 67 for a 15 under par total.

Moodie was on one over and Matthew was three over.

It is amazing for someone to win two LPGA sanctioned events before she is an official member of the Tour. Until now, Shin has played most of her golf on the Korean LPGA Tour.

But her win at the British guaranteed a full card for next season’s American-based circuit, and the little bespectacled girl is sure to be a big hit among the world’s greatest players.
