Scots crash at Murcar

Scotland's team of Carly Booth, Kelsey MacDonald, Rebecca Wilson and Sammy Vass went into the European Girls' Championship as title hopefuls - but the home quartet were totally humbled over the two days of stroke-play qualifying at Murcar.

The team led by Curtis Cup player Booth suffered the humiliation of finishing 17th out of the 19 teams and did not even make the second flight for the match-play stage.

With a team total of 40-over-par 472, Scotland finished in the three-team Flight 3 with Iceland and Latvia and will have only one match (on Friday).

Nairn Dunbar's Kelsey MacDonald was the best of the Scots with a respectable 74, but Comrie's Booth, who finished in the top 30 at last week's English Ladies' Open, could only manage 77. Vass contributed an 84, while Wilson slumped to an 86.

England and Germany finished at the top of the list on seven-over-par 439, while Ireland, with 13-year-old twins Leona and Lisa Maguire in the side, were a very creditable sixth.  Wales made it through to Flight 2 in 15th place.
