Scotland close in on historic Home International victory after win over England
Scotland made it two wins out of two with a terrific 5.5-3.5 victory over England on the second day of the Women’s Home Internationals at Irvine Golf Club.
In the other match, defending champions Wales finished tied 4.5-4.5 with Ireland. Scotland now face Wales, conquerors of England on the opening day, in a title showdown and victory would see Captain Lesley Nicholson’s side lift the Miller Trophy for the first time since 1991.
Scottish Megan Briggs was the Scottish heroine as she clinched the victory with a final green win over Holly Clyburn in the singles.
Scotland had taken the morning foursomes 3-0 but defeats for Carly Booth, Pamela Pretswell and Kelsey MacDonald in the top three singles threw the outcome into serious doubt.
Kylie Walker finally got a point on the board for the home team with a 3 and 2 win over Charlotte Wild and then Megan, all square with two to play against holly, clinched the overall victory when she won the 17th and 18th.
