Scotland stuffed by Wales to end Home Internationals dream
Wales plunged Scotland into disappointment when they won five of the six singles to retain the Women’s Home International title at Irvine Golf Club.
Aiming for a first win in 18 years, Lesley Nicholson’s home had a confident start by winning two of the three foursomes against the defending champions.
But while 17-year-old Carly Booth confidently won the top singles, defeats for Kelsey MacDonald, Jane Turner and Pamela Prestwell left the result hanging in the balance.
And the Welsh wizards also came out tops over the final few holes in the bottom two matches with Scottish Champion Megan Briggs going down on the final green to Amy Boulden and Kylie Walker losing out by 3 and 1 to Lucy Gould.
The 6-3 defeat was a disheartening result for the Scottish team, and second place was little consolation following the afternoon collapse. And it means that next year, they will be hoping to go one better and finally end a 19 year victory drought.
In the other match, England trounced Ireland 7-2 t avoid the wooden spoon.
