Saltman eyeing maiden win

Elliot Saltman is convinced he is finally ready to put his Open disappointment behind him and get his first win of the season on the PGA EuroPro Tour at Formby Hall this weekend.

The 27-year-old – who played at Turnberry with his brother Lloyd – shot a second round 76 at last month's Open to finish on six-over par and miss the half-way cut by two shots.

Saltman is currently lying fourth in the PGA EuroPro Order of Merit.

And the 27-year-old knows a win this weekend would go a long way to securing a top-five finish in the rankings and consequently a place on next season’s Challenge Tour.

“I was bitterly disappointed with myself after the Open,” he said. “After Turnberry, I went down to Wales for a Challenge Tour event and I must admit that was a let-down as the course was terrible.

“But I'm in a good position in the Order of Merit just now and certainly feel I'm playing well enough to stay in the top five between now and the end of the season.

“The only thing I've not been able to do is get over the finishing line in first place but the way I've been playing I genuinely believe a win is just around the corner.”
