Sally's solid finale

Scotland’s Sally Watson saw her comeback from a serious knee operation stay firmly on track  with a top 15 finish in the inaugural 54-hole ANNIKA Invitational Tournament at the Ginn Reunion Resort in Florida.

In only her second tournament in seven months, the Curtis Cup 17-year-old from Elie was the first round leader on 70 before slipping back with an 84 in the fog-delayed second round. She then closed with a solid 74 for a 12 over par total.

At this stage of her recuperation, it was a creditable effort in a field made up of 60 of the best junior girl golfers from all around the globe. The event is one of the new projects launched by former world No.1 Annika Sorenstam, who retired last month from tournament play.

The title was won by 18 year-old Simin Feng. Starting the final round one shot behind her 12-year-old Chinese namesake, Cindy Feng, the Florida youngster closed with a 73 for four over par.

She won by one stroke from American Sarah Brown and Colombia’s Luz Alejandra Cangrejo – they both shot 72 - with Cindy Feng, who was the youngest player in the field, in joint fourth place on six over par after a 76.
