Sally makes top 15

Scotland’s Sally Watson, winner of the IMG Challenge Tournament last month, finished joint 15th in the Verizon Junior Heritage Tournament at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

Tied for fourth place after an opening one under par 71 over the Ocean Course, the 17-year-old Curtis Cup player from Elie followed up with an 82 over the trickier Harbour Town Links to finish on ten over par.

Recently voted Golf Weekly’s Junior Player of the Week in the US, Watson underwent a career-saving knee operation last summer and she is currently in her final year at the David Leadbetter Academy in Florida.

In the autumn, she will be taking up a golf scholarship at Stanford University in California.

Two Florida girls – 13-year-old US Girls’ Champion Alexis Thompson and Laetitia Beck – both shot 72 to tie for first place on one over par.
