Next year’s Ladies’ European Tour is going to offer record prize money of  £11M – but there is no space for a Scottish Ladies’ Open.

“It’s very disappointing but unlikely that the Scottish Ladies’ Open will take place next year,” confirmed a Tour spokesman. “But the LET is working closely with Event Scotland and the hope is that it will be back on the schedule in 2010.”

After an 11 year absence, the Scottish Open was revived with the 2007 version at the new Carrick course at Loch Lomond, and Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson took the title.

In May this year, France’s Gwladys Nocera, who went on to win five tournaments and topped the New Star Order of Merit for a first time, was the champion.

It is a blow for the Tour, and for Scottish women’s golf. With young players such as Sally Watson and Carly Booth making their names as world-class amateurs, and fellow-Curtis Cup players Michele Thomson and Krystle Caithness set to try for their LET Tour cards in Spain next month, it is an opportune time to promote the game.

The 2009 schedule includes 22 tournaments and covers 27 countries. The Solheim Cup takes place in Illinois in September.
