Niven edges all Scottish play-off

It was a dramatic Scottish one-two at the weekend when Crieff’s Roseanne Niven defeated Kylie Walker of Buchanan Castle at the first hole of a sudden-death play-off in the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship in Belfast.

Held at Malone Golf Club in the opulent south of the city, 19-year-old Niven shot a final round of four-under on the par 68 course, meaning she finished level par for the competition on 288.

Walker came closest to her compatriot, shooting a final round 69.

It is Niven’s first British title, and the California-based student won it in style after climbing the leader-board from a position of joint 19th at the start of the final day.

21-year-old Walker also shot a hole in one on the morning of her third round.
