Janice Moodie joins Catriona Matthew in Europe's Solheim squad
Glasgow’s Janice Moodie was delighted to be given a wild card selection from European Captain Alison Nicholas for the Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois from August 21-23.
North Berwick’s Catriona Matthew, who won the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes yesterday, also got in automatically from the Rolex World Rankings.
Matthew will be making her fifth appearance – a record for a Scot. Dale Reid played in four and captained the side in 2000 and 2002.
“I’m thankful that Alison had faith in me,” said Moodie, who played at Loch Lomond in 2000 and at Barseback in Sweden three years later. “I’ve played in two matches, and won two.’
Matthew and Moodie will make a great foursomes and fourball partnership. They have played together many times as amateurs and professionals in international competitions, and never been defeated.
Michelle Wie, the 19-year-old superstar, was chosen by US Captain Beth Daniel as one of her wild cards.
The US team are holders and have won seven of the ten contests to date. European has never won in the States.
