Montgomerie challenges Scots to step up in Ryder Cup selection bid
Colin Montgomerie has urged his fellow Scots prove their worth and put their hands up to join him in the Ryder Cup squad in Celtic Manor next year.
The 46-year-old has been keeping his eye on the likes of Marc Warren, David Drysdale and Alastair Forsyth in recent weeks and has issued a rallying cry ahead of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
There was no Scottish presence in the team at Valhalla in 2008 and that is something Montgomerie is keen to change.
“I hope this week that players like Marc, David and Alastair show me some form because I would like to see a Scottish presence in Wales other than myself,” said Montgomerie.
“Of all of our players, Marc is the one with the potential to succeed - he has the asset of great length and skill.
“When the Ryder Cup qualification process starts at the European Masters in Switzerland it will be amazing the effect that has on the players.”
