Monty set for one extra Ryder Cup wildcard pick

Europe's Ryder Cup skipper Colin Montgomerie has revealed the European Tour's player's committee is planning on overhauling their selection criteria for the 2010 event at Celtic Manor.

Last September America wrestled back the Ryder Cup from Europe's clutches and Montgomerie is convinced that then captain Nick Faldo was at a considerable disadvantage in Valhalla.

While American skipper Paul Azinger was afforded the luxury of four wildcard selections, Faldo had just two and was forced to leave behind the likes of Montgomerie, Darren Clarke and Ross Fisher in order to incorporate Ian Poulter and Paul Casey.

It looks likely Montgomerie will be forced to compromise ahead of Celtic Manor, with the European Tour set to announce he will have one extra wildcard pick for next year's Ryder Cup.

Montgomerie said: "I will put the case forward," ahead of the European Tour's players' committee meeting in Ireland on 12 May.

"I am one vote, but a more powerful one than I was, now being the captain.

"I will abide by the committee's decision but I think you'll find we'll go for one more captain's choice than we have in the past."
