Colin Montgomerie disappointed with form as title chance falls away at Wentworth
Colin Montgomerie insists his chances of claiming a record-equalling fourth PGA Championship are over after the third round at Wentworth.
The 45-year-old Scot carded a three-under par round of 69 at the Surrey course to put him in touching distance of the top ten.
Montgomerie, who won the tournament in 1998, 1999 and 2000, had recorded five birdies in the opening 12 holes but three bogies in the space of four holes ruined his round.
And the Ryder Cup captain - who now sits at five under - ruled himself out of contention saying: "It was very disappointing. I had a good chance to get into a good position but not now.
"I was very disappointed to bogey 13, I missed a very short birdie putt at the 14th and then bogeyed the 15th and 16th so it was like having four bogeys in a row.
"I am too far back now so I just have to hopefully have a good round tomorrow and finish as high up the leaderboard as possible."
