Colin Montgomerie must wait for descision on increasing Ryder Cup wildcard picks
Ryder Cup skipper Colin Montgomerie will find out on May 12 if his bid to increase wildcard picks has been given the thumbs up by the European Tour player's committee.
Montgomerie is desperate to see his wildcard picks increase from the current two to three in time for the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, allowing him to pick in-form players.
Each Europe captain has been given two picks for the last seven Ryder Cups, two less than the Americans in 2008, when Paul Azinger led them to victory.
"I will abide by the committee's decision, but I think you'll find we'll go for one more captain's choice than we have in the past," said Montgomerie.
The Scot wants at least three wildcards at Celtic Manor as Europe seeks to make up for last year's defeat at Valhalla.
"We will listen to the arguments," said Thomas Bjorn, chairman of the European Tour players' committee.
"But we are very much a committee that believes that just because we lose one match we don't need to panic.
"Some captains prefer not to pick anybody and some would like to pick the whole team.
"Monty's certainly not scared of wanting to do what he thinks is right. We will discuss it hard and the fortunate thing is that we have a lot of ex-Ryder Cup players on the committee."
