Monty finds form in France

European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie made a timely return to form at the French Open, but still couldn't force his way into the top ten.

Montgomerie finished in joint 13th place with seven other players after carding an eventful level par round of 71 in the final round, which included seven birdies and seven bogeys at Le Golf National.

The 46-year-old finished runner-up in the event last year and has failed to finish inside the top-ten since but ahead of this week's Scottish Open and the Open at Turnberry in ten days time it was a welcome upturn in fortunes.

Gary Orr finished on one under par, while a closing round of 72 saw fellow Scot Paul Lawrie finish on level par.

David Drysdale carded finished one over par, while Alastair Forsyth and Marc Warren were four over with Steven O'Hara a shot further back on five over.

Germany's Martin Kaymer took the title after beating Lee Westwood on the first extra hole after they had both finished on 13 under.
