Warren the best places Scot while Monty crumbles in Ireland
Colin Montgomerie experienced a nightmare last round of 80 at yesterday's Irish Open as Shane Lowry became just the third amateur to win on the European Tour.
The 22-year-old was forced to do it the hard-way as he held off the challenge from Englishman Robert Rock to win a play-off at the third extra hole.
Marc Warren was the highest placed Scot, carding a four under par 68 to finished tied for fourth with England's Nick Dougherty on 13 under, for both of them it was their best performances since last August.
Alastair Forsyth was solid, if unspectacular, carding a two under 70 to finish 12 under for the week.
But it was the fortunes of Montgomerie that hogged the Scottish headlines as he crashed to an 80, the second time in three weeks he has failed to break that mark.
As a result Europe's Ryder Cup captain, tied for seventh overnight, dropped all the way to 41st and is still searching for his first top 10 finish since he was runner-up in the French Open last June.
