Colin Montgomerie restates desire for Olympic golf
Colin Montgomerie has joined a long list of professional players calling for golf to be at the 2016 Olympics.
The European Ryder Cup captain will fly to IOC Headquarters in Lausanne to state the International Golf Federation's case for golf to be included.
Star names including Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington and golf legend Jack Nicklaus are all backing the campaign for golf to make an Olympic appearance for the first time since St. Louis in 1904.
Golf faces competition from rugby sevens, squash, baseball, softball, karate and roller sports but Montgomerie believes golf is more worthy of the place.
"I got involved when I heard sports like rollerball, softball and rugby sevens pleading for a spot," he said.
"I consider golf more of an Olympic sport than some of those.
"I always felt when tennis made it, golf should have followed."
