Michele Thomson claims first professional victory in Florida
Michele Thomson, who will be one of four Scottish rookies on this year’s Ladies’ European Tour, has claimed her first professional victory in Florida.
The Curtis Cup player from Ellon shot rounds of 76-74-70 to win the Sun Coast Ladies’ Tour event at the Country Club of Mount Dora, and earned her first pay cheque of $2,000.
The 21-year-old, who won last year’s Scottish Amateur Championship, finished on two over par 220 and win by a shot from American Kristina Wong with Germany’s far more experienced Miriam Nagl in third place on 222.
The Aberdeenshire youngster coped admirably with the strong winds on the final day, and is was just the boost she needed as she looks forward to making her LET debut, hopefully at the Deutsche Bank Swiss Open in May.
The win was the first of a great double for Michele’s coach, Neil Marr. He also coaches the new Scottish Boys’ Champion, David Law.
Michele only has a non-exempt card for this season’s LET, but hopes to secure a place alongside fellow tartan rookies, Vikki Laing, Pamela Feggans and Krystle Caithness in the Swiss tournament from May 14-17.
