Curtis Cup contender Thomson still in the running
Michele Thomson, who will play for GB and Ireland in this month's Curtis Cup at St Andrews, stayed on course for a first Scottish Amateur Championship title with a 3 and 2 quarter0-final win over Fife schoolteacher Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) at Lossiemouth.
But 16-year-old Sammy Vass (Tain) saw her great run come to an end. The north youngster, who knocked out top seed Kelsey MacDonald in the first round, went out by 2 and 1 to Jocelyn Carthew (Ladybank).
Jocelyn now meets Kylie Walker(Buchanan Castle), who scraped through at the 22nd hole against Jane Turner, while Thomson meets Laura Murray (Alford).
Quarter-finals:
J Carthew (Ladybank) bt S Vass (Tain) 2 and 1
K Walker (Buchanan Castle) beat J Turner (Craigielaw) at 22nd hole
L Murray (Alford) bt C-M Carlton (Fereneze) 3 and 1
M Thomson (Ellon McDonald) bt L Kenney (Pitreavie) 3 and 2
