Mhairi McKay puts comeback on hold after having first child
Scotland’s Solheim Cup pair of Catriona Matthew and Janice Moodie are competing in this week’s CN Canadian Open at Priddis Green Golf Club in Calgary, but Mhairi McKay has been forced to put her comeback on hold.
McKay had her first baby – Angus – in April and had originally set the target of returning to the LPGA Tour for last week’s Safeway Classic in Portland, Oregon.
“But I was only the first reserve and the Tour said there wasn’t much chance of me making the field so I decided not to travel,” said the New Mexico-based Scot, who is married to American Dave Smith.
“Also, I don’t think I realised how hard it is going to be travelling with a baby. Angus needs so much stuff.
”It makes me have real admiration for the way that Catriona bounced back from her second baby (Sophie was born in mid-May) and won the Ricoh Women’s British Open. It was incredible.”
But McKay is determined to be back on the circuit by the end of the season. Her next target is to make the line-up for the NW Arkansas Championship next week.
Matthew missed the cut in Portland last week, while Moodie finished in a tie for 49th place.
