McKay sub par - but nine behind

Mhairi McKay opened with a one under par 71 on a day of super scoring at the LPGA Tour's State Farm Classic in Illinois. The only Scot in the field was nine shots behind the leader, American Christina Kim.

Michelle Wie had one of her best days since breaking her wrist last year - the 18-year-old opened with a 67 and was in the top ten.

At the BMW Italian Open in Tuscany, rookie Jenna Wilson was top Scot on 74 - but was ten strokes behind the leader, Swede Maria Hjorth.

Clare Queen had a 76, Kathryn Imrie posted a 78 and Lynn Kenny was on 79 and needing a great second round to survive the cut.

Scottish No.1 Catriona Matthew is having a week's break at home in North Berwick before heading for the Evian Masters in France next week.
