McDonald out on his own with Ladybank lead

Ayrshire's Jack McDonald took control of the Scottish boys' open at the halfway stay with a one-under par 70 in the second round to go three clear of the field.

McDonald had ended the first day at the top of the leaderboard with Elliot Wilson at two under but kept his composure in testing conditions at Ladybank.

Wilson slid down to sixth overall after a round of 75 but McDonald cancelled out his four bogeys with five birdies to stay at the top.

Scott Gibson fired the round of the day with a three-under 68 to move to level par and a tie for second with Colin Baird, who carded a second successive 71.

Paul McPhee and David Gallagher are a shot further back on one over heading into the final two rounds.
