Catriona Matthew returns to competition after second child
With baby Sophie just two months old, Scottish No.1 Catriona Matthew makes her Tour comeback at the £2M Evian Masters in France.
The event is vital for he North Berwick 39-year-old as she makes a last ditch bid for a place in the European team for next month’s Solheim Cup.
“I’ve only got Evian and next week’s Ricoh Women’s British Open before the team is chosen. So it’s going to be a close call,” admitted Matthew, the only Scot in the Evian field.
“But I’m hoping the fact that I have a lot of experience will help my case. Sophie was born in May and I’ve been back practicing hard for the past few weeks and I’m really looking forward to getting back into action.”
Sophie is a second daughter for Matthew and husband, Graeme. After the arrival of Katie two years ago, she came back with two top five finishes in her first two tournaments.
And she won the Brasil Cup at the start of this year when she was five months pregnant.
European Captain Alison Nicholas will pick the Solheim team for the match against the USA in Illinois next month at the end of the British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes a week on Sunday.
Matthew has played in four Solheims. She clinched the winning point for Europe at Barseback in Sweden in 2003 and was the leading home player at Halmstad two years ago.
