Matthew’s up and down 74

Catriona Matthew was the top Scot in a tie for 39th place after an opening two over par 74, but Janice Moodie had to settle for a 77 at the Hana Bank Kolon Championship in South Korea.

Australia’s Katherine Hull led on 66, two ahead of Amy Yang, the South Korean teenager who plays on the Ladies’ European Tour.

Matthew had a roller coaster round of three birdies and five bogeys on a day of windy conditions.

On the Ladies’ European Tour, Lynn Kenny, the only Scot in the field, was joint 38th on one over par 73 after the opening day of the inaugural Suzhou Taihou Ladies’ Open in China.

In a field dominated by Asian players, China’s own Li Ying Ye was top of the field on 65, while Annika Sorenstam was in joint seventh on 69.
