Craig Matheson praises losing performance of GB & I at PGA Cup
Scottish golfer Craig Matheson could not prevent Great Britain & Ireland slipping to a humiliating defeat against the USA in the 24th PGA Cup.
The Americans were dominant on the final day of singles action at the Carrick on Loch Lomond coming out 8.5-1.5 on top in the final session to take a 17.5-8.5 overall win in the club pros’ equivalent of the Ryder Cup.
Matheson – who is an assistant professional at Falkirk Tryst – went down to opponent Lee Rinker 3-1 but insists he was happy with his performance.
He said: “I am proud of the way I played, particularly over the last few holes.
“Unfortunately, my game was not 100 per cent but I tried to keep the match going as long as possible.
“Despite the result, it's been a fantastic experience and this is a memory I'll have forever.”
