MacDonald sinks winning put against England

Veteran Scottish golfer Gordon MacDonald helped Scotland defeat England on day one of the Senior Home Internationals at Westport in Ireland.

Facing current English Senior champion Chris Reynolds, MacDonald came out on top by one hole winning 5-4 with a final green put.

That made amends for a heavy 8 and 7 defeat MacDonald suffered with partner Sandy Pirie at the hands of Reynolds and Doug Arnold.

Scotland came out on top 2-1 in the foursomes and there were also single wins for Ian Hutcheon and Bob Stewart pushed only for England to hit back with three singles wins of their own.

That left the match all square and the scene was set for MacDonald to sink a 15-foot put while Reynolds miscued a two-foot effort to hand Scotland the win.
