Last-minute coaching session propels Lynn Kenny to strong start at German Open
Archerfield's Lynn Kenny had an early morning coaching session via the internet with her coach, Kevin Craggs, and it helped her shoot a four under par 68 and finsih just three off the lead after a storm-interrupted first round of the HypoVereinsbank German Open in Munich.
Craggs is the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association National coach and he was at Southerness watching the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship. “It was great to be able to give Lynn the lesson, and it only took a couple of minutes to sort things out,” he said.
Kenny, who missed the cut at last week’s Swiss Open, added: “Kevin spotted something in my swing. We were both looking at the same video and chatting. It was very clever. The other difference from last week was that I started to hole some putts.”
Fellow-Scot Clare Queen, who also missed the cut in Switzerland, , similarly bounced back with four birdies in a 69 to share tenth place on a day that finished early due to thunder storms.
When play stopped, St Andrews rookie, Krystle Caithness, who tied for 18th on her European debut last week, was well-placed at two under par through 15 holes, while Ellon’s Michele Thomson was a disappointing five over par at the same stage.
Musselburgh’s Vikki Laing, the fifth Scot in the field, managed to complete an opening 73 on a day when Swede Johanna Westerberg led on 65.
