Sandy Lyle enjoys moment in the sun of Augusta in the twilight of his career
Sandy Lyle rolled back the years at the Masters last night as he carded a final-round 71 to finish as one of the top Europeans.
The 1988 champion, who was the lone Scot in the field, finished on two under par ending the tournament in 20th place to record his best finish since his Augusta win.
Lyle shot two birdies on the front nine before picking up another at the par-three 12th, although a bogey on the 18th ended his chances of finishing as the top British entrant ? that honour going to Irishman Graeme McDowell.
But Lyle, 51, did enjoy some bragging rights after admitting his biggest pleasure was finishing above triple major winning Padraig Harrington.
"Overall I am pretty pleased considering I double bogeyed the opening hole of my first round," he said.
"So to start two over par and finish four days later at two under par is really nice.
"It was disappointing not to make par up the last but at least I finished ahead of the current Open champion."
Argentine Angel Cabrera won the tournament after a three-way play-off.
