Sandy Lyle irked by Montgomerie Ryder Cup captaincy
Sandy Lyle has slammed the European Tour after he was overlooked in favour of Colin Montgomerie as the next Ryder Cup captaincy.
The two-time Major winner had been expected to lead Europe's side at Celtic Manor in 2010 but was pipped to the post by Montgomerie.
Lyle has been tight-lipped after the January decision but has spoken out on the eve of the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
"There's no doubt that I was let down by the European Tour and I'm still mystified why they haven't told me what qualities I lack, I'd like to know," said Lyle.
"I'm not losing sleep over it but if you put it in on a scale of one to ten in terms of how angry I am I'm probably on about a seven.
"I've always had it ground into me that you don't go out there blowing your own trumpet, you let your clubs do the talking and I think my clubs have done enough talking over the years as far as results, majors and experiences go, which is more than enough to be a Ryder Cup captain."
