David Law bids to make history at Ladybank
Reigning Scottish boys' champion David Law will bid to write his name in the history books when the 2009 stroke-play championship gets under way.
The Aberdonian, a protege of former Open champion Paul Lawrie, will attempt to better the likes of Tiger Woods, who found Turnberry's links too hot to handle at last week's Open, when he takes his place at Ladybank in Fife.
If he wins, Law will be only the sixth player in history to win the elusive Scottish boys' and stroke-play double.
The exclusive list of those who have previously achieved it include Ewan Murray (1971), John Huggan (stroke-play 1977, match-play 1978), Colin Fraser (match-play 1988, stroke-play 1989), Steven Young (1994) and Scott Henry (2004).
But the 17-year-old will not have it all his own way and will face stiff competition from Inchmarlo's Chris Robb, who is out for revenge for his semi-final defeat to Law in the Scottish boys' match-play championship.
However, the Scots face stiff competition from a strong overseas contingent with Austria's Matthias Kaufmann, who is the lowest handicapper in the 144-strong field at +2.5, the favorite for the title.
