Martin Laird content with top ten finish in Scottish Open
Martin Laird admitted he was more concerned about enjoying than winning the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond - despite recording his first top-ten finish on the European tour.
The 26-year-old carded a solid final round 71 but was left to rue two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine as he ended the competition tenth on nine-under - six shots adrift of winner Martin Kaymer of Germany.
But despite his top-ten finish Laird - who is based in Arizona - admitted most of his enjoyment this week came from the home course and the home gallery.
"I had fun," he said. "I really love Loch Lomond. In fact, I had forgotten how good it was. The more you play it, the more you appreciate it. Every time you play, you find out things you didn't know before.
"It is nice to have people trying to keep your head up when you are frustrated. When you hit a couple of bad shots, it's good to hear people shouting 'come on Martin'. That doesn't happen in America."
Elsewhere, 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie finished tied 25th on four-under and both Colin Montgomerie and Gary Orr finished tied 64th on level-par.
