Laing excited by European adventure

Vikki Laing has returned to America for a month – but the Musselburgh 27-year-od is planning a full assault on this year’s Ladies’ European Tour.

Now in her sixth season as a professional – two seasons as a non-exempt player on the LPGA Tour and three on the US Futures Tour – the former Curtis Cup player is looking forward to finally being able to kick-start her career.

Vikki has just gained her LET card at the final qualifying school in Spain and she will launch her rookie campaign at the Turkish Ladies’ Open in May.

“I’m delighted and relieved to have got through qualifying,” she said after making it third time lucky in her bid for a European ticket. “Now I’m looking forward to a year when, hopefully, I can make a bit of money, see my coach (Simon Fletcher) on a more regular basis and have some family time.

“My career has been difficult, but now it is nice to know that I will be playing in 20 plus tournaments this year and there will be a better chance of getting into events such as the Women’s British Open.

“I’m back at my rental home in California this week, but I’ll just be tying things up over there before I come home for the rest of the year.

“Another thing I’m looking for is some sort of sponsorship. I had someone who supported me in the States, but if I don’t get any help over here then I’ll really be struggling.”
