Vikki Laing disqualified from tour school after scoring error
Scotland’s Vikki Laing has suffered a massive blow by being disqualified for signing for a wrong score card after the third round of the 90-hole LPGA Tour final qualifying school at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Laing had signed for a 76 on day three and was tied for 56th place on one over par – 13 shots behind the American leader, Mollie Frankhauser. But it was only after she had left the scorer’s hut that an error was discovered.
After the fourth round, the top 70 and ties from go forward to the final round – with the top 20 at the end of the qualifying school gaining full exempt status for the 2009 circuit.
Laing, who held non-exempt status for the LPGA Tour in 2004 and 2005, had been inside the top 20 after shooting sub-par in the first two rounds.
Michelle Wie, the 19-year-old superstar, was tied for third place after 54-holes on ten under par.
