Krystle Caithness finishes fifth at Irish Ladies' Open
Scottish rookie Krystle Caithness had a career best fifth place on the Ladies’ European Tour after packing seven birdies into a final round of two under par 70 at the AIB Ladies’ Irish Open at Portmarnock.
The St Regulus 20-year-old finished on six under par on a day blighted by two delays for fog. When play finished late into the evening, Italy’s Dian Luna completed a 68 and claimed a comfortable four shot victory on 11 under par.
Musselburgh’s Vikki Laing closed with a 74 and tied for 26th on three over par, while Lynn Kenny, the third Scot to make the cut, was a shot further back after a 73.
Luna, whose only previous Tour win was in the 2004 Tenerife Ladies’ Open, had a flawless four birdie round and finished four strokes aged of the three players in second place, France’s Gwladys Nocera (69), England’s Florentyna Parker (70) and the Swede who had won two previous Irish Opens, Sophie Gustafson (71).
