Krystle Caithness ties for 14th at Madrid Masters
Rookie Krystle Caithness, the only Scot in the elite 42-strong field, finished tied 14th after a final round 69 at the Madrid Masters that was won by a Spanish youngster playing in her first professional tournament.
Azahara Muhoz, a 21-year-old who only turned professional two weeks ago, shot a final round 64 for a 16 under par total and then spectacularly beat the Swedish Solheim Cup player, Anna Nordqvist, with an eagle putt from 18-feet at the first extra hole of a sudden-death play-off.
Nordqvist, a rookie who won a major title at this year’s LPGA Championship, had done even better on the last day with a haul of ten birdies in her faultless ten under round of 63.
Caithness finished on seven under par and the £2,500 prize raised her first season’s earnings to around £35,000 on the Ladies’ European Tour and she is No.36 on the Order of Merit.
