Kiddie number two no hindrance to Catriona's ambitions

North Berwick’s Catriona Matthew is expecting her second daughter in May –but that doesn’t mean the Scot has lost any of her golfing ambition.

Winner of the HSBC Brasil Cup last month – her sixth career title – Catriona will be playing in the HSBC Champions Tournament in Singapore in March before taking the ‘baby’ break.

“But I hope to be back for the Evian Masters in France in July and then straight into the British Open at Lytham,” she said. “I’m also hoping to be available for the Solheim Cup in America in August.

“I’ll probably have to rely on one of the three wild card selections from the Captain (Alison Nicholas), but the fact that the match is in America should help my case.”

Matthew has already played in three Solheim Cups, the highlight coming in Sweden in 2003 when she holed the winning putt in her singles match against Rosie Jones.

With first daughter, Katie, now two years old, Catriona and husband Graeme, who is also her caddie, are loving the new family lifestyle, and thoroughly looking forward to the arrival of their next wee girl at the end of May.

“The intention is to go back to America full-time for at least another couple of years, but we’ll see how things work out,” Catriona added. “It will no doubt be tougher with two kids, but there are very good day care facilities on the LPGA Tour.”
