Scottish stars teeing up for Solheim showdown in Illinois
Sally Watson (Elie and Earlsferry) has good reason to skip the British Open Strokeplay Championship this week as she is the only Scot in Europe’s Junior Solheim Cup team to take on the US at Aurora Country Club in Illinois.
Sally, 18, was also in the side in Sweden two years ago – this time she’s hoping to help Captain Carin Koch’s team regain the trophy.
The visitors’ line-up has a mix of continental players, and also includes Northern Ireland’s famous Maguire twins – Lisa and Leona – and England’s Kelly Tidy.
Catriona Matthew and Janice Moodie are in the European Solheim Cup team for the main matches starting at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois on Friday.
It will be Matthew’s first outing since her spectacular win in the Ricoh Women’s British Open and she is bound to be a key player in Captain Alison Nicholas’s master plan to try and regain the Cup.
Matthew and Moodie seem bound to be paired together in the opening series of fourballs.
