Forsyth makes US PGA cut but Monty misses out
Alastair Forsyth again flew the flag for Scotland at the US PGA in Minnesota shooting a three over par 75 to make the cut – but Colin Montgomerie missed out.
Forsyth – who finished ninth in last year’s tournament – now stands four over par, fully 11 shots behind runaway leader Tiger Woods.
But while Forsyth celebrated, Ryder Cup skipper Montgomerie recorded six bogeys on his way to a disappointing 78 and will take no further part at Hazeltine National Golf Club.
Woods – in his last chance to win a major this year – got off to a disastrous start with a bogey at the first but fired five birdies on his way to a two under par 70.
The American holds a four shot lead over Brendan Jones, Lucas Glover, Ross Fisher and Padraig Harrington who are tied for second.
Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood are a further shot behind heading into day three.
