Five Scots on course for success

Archerfield’s Lynn Kenny hit hot form and headed a very successful penultimate day for the Scottish contingent at the Ladies’ European Tour Qualifying School over the South course at La Manga in Spain.

With the top 30 set to gain full cards for the 2009 season at the end of the 72-hole test, Kenny fired a wonderful five under par 68 for outright second place on seven under par, teenager Krystle Caithness was in the top ten, and Pamela Feggans, Michele Thomson and Vikki Laing were also inside the cut off mark.

Kenny, who just missed out on retaining a full card last season and has already booked a flight to Australia this weekend to prepare for the new year, birdied the final three holes and had seven altogether to stand just a shot behind the leader, Anna Nordqvist. The Swede went one better than the Scot with a best of day 67.

Caithness, the 19-year-old Curtis Cup player from St Regulus, also birdied the final three holes for a super 69 and was joint seventh spot on three under.

Patna’s Feggans rather spoiled her day with a triple-bogey seven at the 11th, but she did fought back with a two at the short 12th and went on to post a 75 for even par and a tie for 14th.  Thomson, the Scottish Champion and Curtis Cup player from Ellon McDonald, had a 72 for two over and joint 20th.

Musselburgh’s Laing had been well outside the top 30 at halfway, but she climbed into a tie for 25th place after a 71 that included birdies at the second, 15th and 18th and two bogeys, at the sixth and 14th.

Jenna Wilson, who lost her card last year, had a best of week 73 for 12 over par but it wasn’t good enough to make the 54-hole cut that fell on seven over par and reduced the field to 55 players. Kylie Walker was the other Scot to drop out after a 77 for 14 over.
