Drysdale keeps feet on ground following Ryder Cup hype
Scot David Drysdale is refusing to think about qualfying for Europe’s Ryder Cup squad – despite captain Colin Montgomerie issuing him a rallying call earlier this week.
The 34-year-old is finalising his preparations for the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles while qualification for Celtic Manor starts in Switzerland next week.
But Drysdale – who has earned more than £380,000 in prize money so far this year – is not dreaming of a Ryder Cup debut just yet.
“I’ve not even given the Ryder Cup any thought,” said Drysdale. “My short-term goal is to put myself in a position to win a tournament.
“You have to win a few times on the European Tour to have a chance of qualifying for the Ryder Cup, so it’s not on my agenda.
“But, at the same time, you just never know.”
