Drysdale ends long Open wait

David Drysdale, Richie Ramsay and Gary Orr will be at the Open at Turnberry next month after winning three of the ten places available at the qualifying event.

Drysdale, who made his only Open appearance as a marker 17 years ago, hit a hole-in-one at Sunningdale but there was heartache for Alastair Forsyth after he failed to make it.

As a 17-year-old Drysdale played at Muirfield in 1992 alongside John Daly and Roger Chapman to ensure they didn't have to play their rounds on their own and he can't wait for the trip to Ayrshire.

"It's a fantastic feeling and I'm already really looking forward to it. I've got a couple of weeks off so hopefully I can go and practice at Turnberry," said Drysdale, who finished second at the Andalucian Open in March.

"It's a long time since Muirfield but that was a fantastic experience and I would love to play alongside John Daly again, he was fantastic."

Drysdale and Orr finished a shot behind top qualifier Graeme Storm while Ramsay secured his second Open appearance by holding his nerve in a six-way play-off.
